Awareness

Signs of Human Trafficking

If you notice any of the following warning signs in an advertisement or interaction, report the concern immediately. Avoid confronting a suspected trafficker directly.

1
A third party controls all communication. An agency, spa, manager, or other person answers every call or message and the individual advertised is never allowed to speak freely.
2
Repeated or suspicious contact patterns. Many profiles share the same phone number, images, or scripted descriptions in a way that suggests deception, impersonation, or control.
3
Signs of fear or distress. The person appears coached, afraid, unable to speak openly, or unable to make simple decisions independently.
4
Possible minor involved. Any indication that a person may be under 18 should be reported immediately. Do not attempt to verify this through further contact.
5
Restricted movement or isolation. The person appears unable to leave, travel, or communicate freely without permission from another party.
6
Debt or threats used as control. References to transport debt, housing debt, withheld documents, intimidation, or punishment can all be indicators of exploitation.
